Member facilities

Make the most of the facilities at Savoy Place.

A modern and dynamic hub, our Faraday Centre is available to support our members and volunteers – providing a comfortable and practical base, whether meeting fellow engineers or carrying out research.

Use the Faraday Centre as a base when you need it. The large lounge provides comfortable, practical spaces that allow you to meet fellow engineers.

It also houses the Knowledge Centre and Library where you can carry out research.

The Faraday Centre is open from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

Each member can visit up to twice a week and host a maximum of three visitors.

Our staff are on hand to help, whether you need to book a meeting for your local network or need further information about wider IET offerings and activities.

Facilities for members include:

  • Lounge space for networking with fellow IET members and volunteers
  • Knowledge Centre access – with reference books, archives and more at your fingertips to help with research and studies
  • Meeting rooms for members to hold confidential meetings for up to 2 hours, free of charge (max 4 people, pre-booking is advised)
  • A 20% discount on other bookable rooms where a charge is levied
  • Access to the Faraday Kitchen, our café/coffee shop
  • A tea/coffee station, providing complimentary beverages for members only
  • Facilities to purchase IET books and retail items
  • Wi-fi throughout the building
  • Shower facilities.

Opening times:

  • Faraday Centre: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.
  • Faraday Kitchen: Monday to Friday, 9.15 am to 4.30 pm.
  • Knowledge Centre and Library: Monday to Friday, 10 am to 4 pm.
  • Member Meeting Booths and Rooms: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

Faraday Lounge

The Faraday Centre is also bookable as an event space after it closes to Members from 6 pm to 11 pm and is hireable as the Faraday Lounge.

Making it easy for you

If you come to use the member facilities, we want to make your experience as simple and straightforward as possible, so when you visit Savoy Place you’ll find:

  • a reception desk outside the Faraday Centre with IET staff on hand to help with general queries relating to membership and IET services
  • speedy priority access to the Faraday Centre with swipe card digital sign-in
  • dynamic digital signage in the building so you can easily navigate to your event or activity
  • improved, accessible cloakrooms, meetings rooms, and general facilities for wheelchair users including a Sesame lift at the entrance.
