Bicycle

A bicycle rider is called a cyclist or bicyclist. Bicycles were introduced in the 19th century in Europe. The basic shape and configuration of a typical upright, or safety bicycle, has changed little since the first chain-driven model was developed around 1885.

However, many details have been improved, especially since the advent of modern materials and computer-aided design. These have allowed for a proliferation of specialised designs for many types of cycling.

Print of penny-farthing

This is a 3D print, made by RYDA Technology, of a penny-farthing bicycle , also known as a high wheel, high wheeler and ordinary. It is a bicycle type with a large front wheel and much smaller rear wheel. It was popular after the boneshaker until the development of the safety bicycle in the 1880s.

Although the name penny-farthing is now the most common, it was probably not used until the machines were nearly outdated; the 1st recorded print reference is from 1891 in Bicycling News. It comes from the British penny and farthing coins, one much larger than the other.
