Integrated electronic circuitry
An integrated circuit or monolithic integrated circuit (also known as an IC, a chip, or a microchip) is a set of electronic circuits on one small plate (chip) of semiconductor material normally silicon. This can be made much smaller than a discrete circuit made from independent electronic components.
ICs can be made very compact, having up to several billion transistors and other electronic components in a fingernail-sized area.
ICs were made possible by experimental discoveries showing that semiconductor devices could perform the functions of vacuum tubes and also by the mid-20th century technology advancements in semiconductor device fabrication.
ARM mbed IoT starter kit
This ARM mbed IoT starter kit (Ethernet edition), launched in 2015 comprises two printed circuit boards (PCBs), each board with many chips and other electronic components.
The kit allows users to make cloud-ready Internet of Things products that can receive or transmit data for analysis or alerts. The development kit comes with ARM's mbed operating system and it connects into IBM's BlueMix cloud, designed to help in the development of applications and services.
The product is said to be particularly suitable for developers with no specific experience in embedded or web development.
