Photography
Photography is the science, art and practice of creating durable images by recording light or other electromagnetic radiation.
Today this is done either electronically by means of an image sensor, or chemically by means of a light-sensitive material such as photographic film.
The film is a strip or sheet of transparent plastic film base coated on one side with a gelatin emulsion containing microscopically small light-sensitive silver halide crystals.
June 1953 image of Savoy Place
This is a photograph of Savoy Place taken in June 1953, the month in which the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II took place.
Queen Elizabeth II was crowned as monarch of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Union of South Africa, Pakistan and Ceylon (the Commonwealth countries at that time) on 2 June 1953. The flags of the Commonwealth countries are shown flying from the top of Savoy Place.
