Portable music
For consumer audio streaming or storage a very common portable digital music file format is the MP3 format.
MP3 is the common name for MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 Audio Layer III. Devices which use the MP3 format are known as MP3 players. MP3 was designed by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) as part of its MPEG-1 standard and later extended in the MPEG-2 standard.
MPEG-1 Audio (MPEG-1 Part 3) was published as a standard in 1993 and MPEG-2 Audio (MPEG-2 Part 3) was published as a standard in 1995.

The iPod is an iconic portable media player designed and marketed by Apple Inc. The iPod can play several audio file formats including the MP3 format.
The first iPod model was the iPod Classic. The first generation iPod Classic was released in October 2001 with a 5GB capacity. The 10GB version shown here was released a little later in 2002.
This 1st generation iPod had a mechanical scroll wheel that physically turned. The 2nd generation iPod, released in July 2002, dispensed with the mechanical scroll wheel and introduced a touch-sensitive wheel.
