How long have you worked at Savoy Place?

I’ve worked at Savoy Place for five years, I started in March 2015 prior to the venue reopening.

What does your role involve?

As Operations Manager I am responsible for making sure all the elements come together to ensure the success of every event at Savoy Place.

I enjoy being hands-on in the role, walking around the venue making sure everything is as it should be, talking to clients and staff, checking the catering as it goes out. I also oversee five competent and hardworking teams, including:

  • Duty Managers who are the kingpin liaison between the client and other teams at Savoy Place on the day of an event.
  • Faraday Centre Reception team who look after IET members and guests visiting Savoy Place.
  • External contractors for cleaning, concierge and maintenance, these teams are vital in ensuring the building is kept to a high standard. They also need to embody the IET, as concierge are the first people anyone meets when coming to the building.
  • Event Support Team (Porters) are probably one of the most essential parts of the operation, as they’re often not seen by clients but are always working hard to ensure rooms are set up on time.

What’s your favourite part of the job?

I like that every day provides a new challenge. Also seeing the smile on the face of an Event Organiser at the start of their event remaining until the end of it.

What’s your favourite room at Savoy Place?

The Riverside Room. I love the flexibility of the room and the stunning variety of events we can facilitate. I also love how the spectacular view from the balcony and windows changes during the day and into the evening.

What’s been your favourite event at the venue?

There have been so many memorable events, some including Royalty. However, a particular highlight of mine was in 2019 when MotorSport magazine hosted an event where Nigel Mansell (a Formula One world champion) spoke, which drew in 400 guests in the Kelvin Lecture Theatre.

What did you do before working at Savoy Place?

Prior to Savoy Place, I worked in the House of Commons as a Special Projects Manager for four years. I love operations management, but initially, I started in the corporate catering events industry as a qualified chef and moved on to management.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I am a confirmed petrolhead, I like fast cars, especially Porsche. As a Post Chief, I manage a team of incident marshals at various motor racing circuits, including Brands Hatch and Silverstone and Le Mans.

I also like to keep active; I cycle and am a PADI qualified scuba diver, I recently completed my 100th dive!
