This room is named in honour of Augusta Ada King (Countess of Lovelace), who was a mathematician with a fascination for mechanical toys and scientific pursuits in the nineteenth century.
Having died from cancer at the early age of 37 after a remarkable life in computing, Ada Lovelace Day is now an annual event whose goal is to ‘raise the profile of women in science, technology, engineering and maths’ and to ‘create new role models for girls and women’ in these fields.
